rappers worth checkin out

This is the page about rappers that you might not have heard of if you only listen to those idiots on the radio like lil jon n lil scrappy. these are real rappers and are worth checkin out if you havent done so already

Gangstarr

One of the most underrated rap groups ever. Theyve consistantly put out great cds ever since their 1989 debut "no more mr nice guy" Their hits include "ex girl to next girl" "militia" "mass appeal" "rite where u stand (feat. jadakiss" and many many more. Its 2 people in the group...guru does all the rappin and dj premier does all of the beats. You may have heard dj premiers beats before on some well known cds like Nas-illmatic, i am..., nastradamas, stillmatic, jayz-reasonable doubt, vol1, vol2, and vol3 and many other rapper albums. Guru hasnt done many guest spots on mainstream cds but he was on the 2nd big l release called "the big picture" Hes also known for fusing rap and jazz together for his 3 "jazzamatzz" cds. Overall Guru and premier go together perfectly. Even if your not a fan of underground rap at least check out their newest cd "the ownerz" ITs got jadakiss snoop dogg fat joe M.O.P. and more. Plus its just a great cd.

Recommended CD: Moment of truth

Big L

Hopefully youve heard of Big L. Maybe not though. Hes another rapper who was killed by senseless violence. He only recorded one full length album (lifestylez ov da poor and dangerous) but another one was released after his death (the big picture). Both of these albums show how great of a rapper he was and "the big picture" shows how successful he wouldve been if he was still alive. Saleswise he wasnt a winner though. SInce his first cd was strictly for the underground listeners it didnt sell well. But it was undoubtedly a classic featuring the hit songs "put it on" and "MVP" and also featuring Camron and Jay-Z before they were famous. Later he came out with a well known track called "ebonics" That and "flamboyant" are the songs that hes most known for. THey are both featured on "the big picture" which is also worth checkin out. It features one of his freestyles, a song with pac, and songs with many other rappers. And on a sidenote...if your a big fan of camron or mase...thank big l for gettin them into rap. They were going to be basketball players but big l showed them that they were much better at rap and its been fame and glory for them since then. Big l was also in a group called children of the corn with rappers bloodshed (RIP) camron and mase. ANyway big l was and still is a great rapper even if hes dead. His music makes many cds out now sound weak compared to his.

RIP Big L

Masta killa

The 9th member of the Wu tang clan. Always overshadowed by his other clan members. He has a different flow and abstract style but if your into lyrics then you should check him out. Hes been on all of the wu tang cds and has put out his 1st solo cd called "no said date" it features all of the wu tang clan and has masta killa showing off his skill. But hes not for everybody. Some will feel bored by his flow but others will think it adds effect to the wisdom he speaks. I like the flow and the cd and the verses on it but some of you wont. Even if you dont check out the song "old man" its a good track.

Recommended CD: No said date

OC

No this isnt a soundtrack to that terrible show. This is a cd from one of the many unrecognized underground NY rappers. He was part of the group DITC (diggin in the crates) with big l, fat joe, lord finesse, diamond d, ag, buckwild, and show. Check out the tracks "born 2 live" "war games" "my world" and then buy his albums.

Recommended CD:Word...life (out of print but can be ordered online at www.sandboxautomatic.com)

Freddie foxxx

First time i ever heard this dude was on gangstarr's "militia" and "militia 3" and he ripped these tracks which made me want to check his solo projects out. I couldnt find "industry shakedown" which is said to be his best but i found "konexion" which isnt far behind. I learned that there are 2 types of freddie foxxx...the one that yells and hypes up the track while still rippin it with hot lyrics and the calm freddie who drops knowledge. Overall his cd is hot and he even took chances like allowing his kid to rap on a track and talking bad about the industry. Things like this made him earn my respect. He is definately worth checking out.

Recommended CD: Industry Shakedown (Out of print; but available at www.sandboxautomatic.com)

Jeru the damaja

Hes been around for a LONG time and is still spitting intelligent lyrics. Hes been featured on gangstarr cds, been on the classic song "return of the crooklyn dodgers" featuring OC and Chubb rock. Also he has released 3 cds ("The sun rises in the east", "Wrath of the math", and "Divine Design") and a cd with a crew that i cant remember on the cd "heroez4hire" If you see one of his cds in the store definately check it out

Recommended CD: The Sun Rises In The East

Afu-Ra

Featured on 2 songs off Jeru's first two albums ("Mental Stamina" and "Physical Stamina") Afu showed that he had the lyrical skill to hold his own. On his debut CD "body of the life force" he only showed a little of what skills he possessd and therefore people were disappointed with him. Thankfully his second CD "life force radio" shows his real skills. Not a fan of the underground? you will still love this cd. If afu keeps at it he will be around for a long time.

Recommended CD: Life Force Radio

Black Moon

Black moon has been representin the underground since about 1993 when their classic debut "enta da stage" was realeased. The 3 man group contains 5 Ft. Excellerator, DJ Evil Dee, and Buckshot Shorty. Their best releases are "enta da stage" and "total eclipse"

Recommended CD: Enta Da Stage
